Mind Over Matter

dalai

As I see it, it all originates in the mind, events depend heavily on motivation. If we develop a good heart, real appreciation, love and compassion for others, our life will improve. If every family member has a warm heart, the atmosphere at home will be peaceful, but if anyone is angry, it will get tense. Despite good food or a nice TV, peace and calm will be lost – so things depend more on mind than on matter.--Dalai Lama

...and this is why I love the guy.

Widespread Panic Orange Beach, Alabama

My latest piece for Widespread Panic is a 22x15 screen print on French Black Licorice paper. 6 colors with gloss effects. A tip of the hat to Rick Griffin, Drew Brophy and Al McWhite for the surf art inspiration. Available at the show at Panic Merch.

It was pointed out to me that this poster basically illustrates the Oil Spill in Gulf. An angry crying wave surrounded by black oil with the words being Widespread Panic no less.

First let me say I was completely taken back when I saw this. It brought tears to my eyes. I was a bit speechless. The poster was drawn last week in the middle of the night before I left for NOLA. I had no inclination to depict a scene of the oil spill in fact I was just cranking out some old school surf art. I guess my subliminal mind was hard at work because I was so upset being completely saturated by news of the disaster.

Strange but true....

NOLA Fantastic Hullabaloo

I just returned from New Orleans after attending the Fantastic Hullabaloo. Getting to hang with the artists was a real treat. Not to mention sitting across from Stanley Mouse and watching him paint all weekend was a dream come true. I learned so much watching him work that paint.

Thanks to all the artists who participated. I had a blast. New Orleans is one of my favorite places and I think I ate my way across the Quarter while down there. BEST FOOD EVER!

I did a poster for the event. It's a 15 x 22 Screen print on French Black Licorice paper. Metallic gold ink and thick clear gloss effects. Available at the new and improved DCS web store that reopens in a few weeks.
